This week we got our assignments and groups for the E Center projects. I was overjoyed. I get to be working with Rfinity on social media marketing. Although I signed a non-disclosure form, I better find out exactly what I can and cannot explain here in this blog.
1. Tasks completed---what did you do?
So to help myself and Rfinity, I went out on a search for the top social networks and signed up for them. This took longer than I was expecting. First thing I did was to find a top listing. I found the top ten of 2010.So in order they ranked as such, and what I had to do on each.
1. Facebook - nothing, I was already signed up.
2. Myspace - same as facebook.
3. Bebo - same as facebook.
4. Friendster - register, confirm email, upload picture and find friends.
5. Hi5 - same as Friendster.
6. Orkut - same as facebook.
7. Perfspot - never heard of this one, same as friendster.
8. Yahoo 360 - never really heard of this either, but same as facebook. I had created profiles with my yahoo accoutn before they went social.
9. Zorpia - never heard of this one, same as friendster.
10. Netlog - never heard of this one, same as friendster.
Others that I also consider social networks that are bigger than most of these on the top 10 are:
Youtube - already have account there
flickr - same.
ping.fm - same.
blogger - same.
2. Progress made---write about how productive you were for the week in regards to your projects.
I felt I was very productive in getting know a lot of these new sites. There is still so much to learn and figure out each of their strengths and weaknesses. I came to see why facebook is so popular. it is very clean and user friendly. the ads are not very cluttering, unlike the lower half of the top 10.
There has been a page made on google docs so we all can contribute to the pot of information. I was the only one outside the intern, to make any comments or updates. I posted the powerpoint that I posted last week on here and also some key findings from this weeks personal and business project. I hope to find more for them before Tuesday at 2.
3. Lessons Learned---time to reflect on what you are learning through the projects.
One big thing that is very hard to overcome is getting sucked into these sites. Plus there are some unsavory characters who are on them. I noticed a few pedophiles and creepy guys. Most try to delete fake accounts, but some still slip through. I decided to create a new email account just for my social networking. Within 10 minutes of signing up on these sites I had 4 invites from girls from outside this country. Hopefully I can create filters to block a bunch of the junk I will get.
This is what I did for the business project. This is going to be fun, working hand in hand with my personal project. This business project is going to give me the experience I need and want to push me to where I need to go. They are just so similar. So I will be going above and beyond.
