Final Entry

It has bee a month since the end of class now and I wish to add one final entry. I will not be updating this blog or adding to it at anytime. I won't even be checking it very often. I would like to thank you for stumbling across this site and checking out the information found here. If you like what you see or if this has helped you at all I would ask that you click on my name on the bottom of this post. It doesn't cost you a thing, but it does help compensate me for my time I put into this project. Or if you like to make some money of your own just by referring people to a great site click on this picture ad.

Without doing anything... and I mean nothing at all. Somehow I made $90 over a year's time. Think what you could make if you did put some effort into it. Have a great day and thank you again for coming to this blog for information.

PS. If you have questions: I'm sorry, but I may not be able to get back to you in time for certain things. I wish I could answer all of your questions.

What I Wished I'd Known

This section is for you. It's also my last real blog about class. We are sworn to secrecy about the Final in OB and I don't feel there will be much use to anyone to cover the remaining classes. PLEASE!!!! Submit a comment down below and write: What I Wished I'd Known. Thank you again for a great experience.

IBC in Review and REflection

OB:
We had a guest from Epic Ventures. He spoke about internships with them and the Rexburg East Center and a company called "One Life at a Time". In the places where they work there is a 40% unemployment rate. For anyone with Spanish skills and want to apply, go to the (Free Food) presentation on (Free Food) Monday at 5:00 (Free Food) in Smith 340. (Free Food)

In 2000 the announcement came from President Hinckley saying that Ricks will become BYU-Idaho. How would you feel as a campus sports coach? 4-years... year... and then hear the athletics being done away with. CHANGE! How do you feel? Former Deans wrote letters to Elder Bednar.

How does Change affect you? You work in a company and they want you to manage the reduction of 15000 people. How would that make you feel? How about finding out your job was now obsolete? How do you deal with it? What do you do first? "Look at position and reviews of performance rather than names."

Change in the IBC:

What are we doing well?

Keep kicking us out of our paradigms.

The things I hated most I learned the most from

Keep Badger Creek

make sure to keep up the mix and chaos because it helps us think more about what is taught

Company time (we recognized the sacredness of your team/company time)

Funeral Address, Lighthouse movie, all the books, loan committee, self improvement, NASA case,

keep the chaos to put more responsibility and time management.

The first day to break out.

What are we needing to change?

Stock Prices (food companies): just get rid of food, more benefit from other options than food. (stock prices are based on financials compared to past financials)

Role plays go a bit too long. People fall asleep (That happens no matter what time it is)

Schedules: everything is hard to follow (Why does it always say just "FN"? iLearn doesn't have the capabilities yet)

Schedule: more continuity for class regularity. (to us there was structure)

Supply chain [Choose a supplier] lesson should before Badger Creek. (you might not have the same value if you learned it before)

We wish we had more time, give us less time to come up with an idea. Badger creek should start faster and get companies up and running sooner. More class to company integration. Yet we still want it to keep it a bit separate.

Teach us more of the why behind OB. (Leadership can not be taught but must be learned)

Create case related to company.

Have evaluations come earlier.

"More work vs less work" (I'm going to fill the table with a mess load of food, if you want to eat more you can. I'm going to put it all out there)

Have another loan committee meeting that would keep us accountable beside the MD&A's

Maybe sell shares and have a shareholder meeting. (interesting)

Leadership and self deception should be given more weight. (this is a test of how much you want to learn)

Less conflict in assignments.

Choose a company to follow as a team.

"Good to Great" a bit repetitive, some like it some hate it

Have this class period before summation paper... (NO WAY!)

smaller companies.

Anything else add a comment.

Kingsford

Marketing:

Kingsford:
What is the true threat? GAS
What is their strength? Flavor
What is their weakness? Speed

How did Brother Eagar do?
Likes: hands on, past experiences, white board work,
Ideas: presentations should have poignant questions, keep the threats, add concepts to presentations that were talked about previously, look more towards other options than powerpoint, talk about the marketing book, have more classes rather than the other classes, look more at quantitative, talk about people from the cases, have meetings with the teacher about IMC, integrate company events into class more, have the IMC more about another company or the other company, have the teacher meet with company more to discuss company events.

Finance:
We worked as a group on an assignment.

That's it.

Get Out of Jail FREE?!?

Finance:

Brother Andrews had a chat today with Idaho State Tax Commission. They told him that a company this year has had some legal issues about making sure other companies are to pay taxes on things sold.
Class Notes:
Cash Flow, not accounting returns, are used in capital budgeting, exercises
Only cash flow that is INCREMENTAL (not net income or all the money that comes in, this is more cash flow due to investment) to the project is measured

Depreciation: MACRS

NET Cost

Poor sales forecasts = poor NPV and = poor IRR

Cash Flow from two (2) main sources:
1. Increase in Revenue
2. Decrease in Cost

Sensitivity Analysis: Change assumptions and re-run capital budgeting (what if scenarios)

Supply Chain:

Toyota case
Seat variations: 51

Toyota: Should they Redesign, Drop variations, stop rotating people, get rid of KFS or something other than those or combination?

What did they do?
Revise the reorder form
KFS reevaluated their position on quality
KFS instituted better lighting on end production
Managerial problem for seat problems
Seat Variations moved up to 100 at one point

Marketing Final

Marketing:
We got our final today. First we got our grades for our IMC. Yeah, our team sucked it up. I think we are all getting tired of classes. We all did our parts well, but when it came to presentation and bringing it together, we had more continuity errors than a b-rated film. It was ridiculous and I feel so ashamed for not taking more initiative in making it so.

We did a peer evaluation. I gave everyone the same except for myself. I really felt I dropped the ball on this assignment.

Brother Eagar tips on taking the exam: Read the case, go back over notes and iLearn pages and apply what needs to be applied, and not just anything you want.

That was about as much as I got out of class for this week. If you got more, please comment.

Curling!

Supply Chain:
D6 was the winner this time. Don't even ask what our team did to do worse than "DONOTHING". Here's what they did...
Brother Clark said they played an almost perfect game.

We then graded the papers for another team.

Finance:
New Unit: #8 Capital Budgeting
Hey, did you know pointless facts about Intel? You didn't? It's all because you missed today's class. You missed out on the Wii, iPhone, Scoops...

Capital budgeting is a group of techniques
Three questions:
1. How long until I get my money back? (payback) But this ignores time value of money and subsequent payouts.
2. Does the investment earn at least _____? (10%) (y/n) [NPV]
3. Exactly what percent? (IRR) Scalping tickets example... one word CURLING!
Most people agree that NPV is superior.

That was about as much as I got out of class for this week. If you got more, please comment.

Guitars Unplugged

I just wanted to link to our Guitars Unplugged Commercial. so here is the link. The marketing team really pulled off a great commercial. The others just weren't as cool.

PS. You might want to have your favorite song cued up for right after this, because this song is catchy... I mean really catchy.

Marketing Week In Review

Monday:

Marketing: Integrated Marketing Campaign. Groups 1-3 presented that's about it.
OB: We talked about Jack Welch and if he was a Level 5 Leader. I said he was a Level 4, after reading Winning, no one could ever call him humble! But there were a few that thought he was a level 5 leader.
SCM: Plus Littlefield Simulation ended. We sucked it up. I don't think this week was a good one for us.

That was about as much as I got out of class for that day. If you got more, please comment.

Tuesday:
Marketing: Integrated Marketing Campaign. Groups 4-6 presented that's about it.

Wednesday:
Marketing: Integrated Marketing Campaign. Groups 7-10 presented that's about it.
Except for the fun Skittles Commercials.

Thursday:
No class due to Business Summit

Friday:
We were supposed to bring a quarter to class but that was dropped due to a sore back. Brother Clark has had some major back problems, here's a picture of him showing us what he does to help his back.We talked a lot about Quality. Surprisingly, you will find that Supply Chain is the most spiritual class you'll have outside of your religion classes.
Here are some notes I took in that class:
Read: Out of the Crisis

Read: Reflections of Christ

OB:
We finished up the Leadership Powerpoint and then did the Leadership and Self Deception Powerpoint. (funny thing: no one had to read that book. it wasn't even required.) Here are the powerpoints.

I think it would be good to read Leadership and Self Deception once a year.

That was about as much as I got out of class for this week. If you got more, please comment.

Rudy!

OB:
I had to laugh at today's outcome. I don't think Brother Holt had these comments in mind when he prepared his lesson. He couldn't bring back the true point of Rudy very well.

Today our Rudy papers were due. A few of us have started to look at Rudy differently before we watched the movie and after watching it, our thoughts were confirmed. Most people look at Rudy as a great motivational movie about enduring to the end and pursuing your dreams. Well a few of us (especially those that have read Strengths Finder 2.0) noticed that the lesson was, you can acheive your goals even if you're not good at it, if you stick to it. Plus, some goals are really stupid to want to reach. The example that Brooke brought up was, "If your life's ambitions is to get the highest score at Halo, what good does that do for a person?" Brother Holt tried to tel us a friend of his now works for Nintendo creating games, but it didn't work very well. Oh well. Poor Brother Holt, but at the same time it was fun to watch a professor try to bring us back to the point that had obviously been lost and quite frankly DROPPED! and considered rubbish.

Here are my notes on the rest of class:
"Bednar thinks Covey just took Church principles and made a book out of ‘em."
Motivated by video: (pretty good movie, old but good points)
Recognition
Affiliation
Order & Clarity
Physiological
Monetary Reward
Safety & Security

Influential stages
Decision
Awareness
Feasibility
Commitment – ask what they can do and when
Be specific
Actions
Competence
Approach
Resources available
Results
Praise
Satisfaction
Dissatisfaction –vent
Final evaluation

In each step reevaluate
Reassess the commitments
Reassign commitment in casual way
Provide incentives
FEEDBACK
Keep individual needs in mind

Empower people by giving them the option to come up with the answer themselves

Two minute Management:
Life’s little lessons (funny slides)

Leadership:
Drive
Leadership motivation
Honesty and Integrity
Self Confidence
Cognitive ability
Knowledge of the business

HOMEWORK:
Write to 20 people
What traits do I have to become a great leader? (I posted onto Facebook)

Finance:
Today we started to work on an assignment as a group, but our minds were pretty much fried from OB. Oh well, we have a couple of days to work on it. Most of us are just glad all the other assignments are done, but we still have our Marketing thing to do next week.

Let Your Light So Shine

OB:

Before class we were to have read: "Let Your Light So Shine" and we commented on that a bit. Then we went back to the powerpoint. Here it is finally for those waiting for it.
Here are some notes I took during class:
Motivational plan notes:
Unsatisfied need --> Tension --> Drives --> Search behavior --> Satisfied Need --> Reduction of Tension

Where am I on the “Maslow’s hierarchy of needs”?

Giving up agency by not practicing piano = giving up the choice to play or not to play.

"My fear is to come to the other side and see how we were before we came to earth and see what we could have been. And find that a bit of pride, a bit of selfishness got in the way." -Brother Holt

That was about as much as I got out of class for today. If you got more, please comment.

Hank Kolb

Supply chain:

(So I lied, I wasn't going to post the powerpoint today, since it was supply chain and finance today, I'll put it up tomorrow when there is OB.)

Today we spoke mostly of what we thought of the Hank Kolb case and if we would have fired Wayne or not. I said that he was just doing what he was told to do and that quality wasn't a big deal from the company. Well in actuality, they did fire him, so if you take the poll, fire his sorry bottom and make him an example. I think for firing him, they did do a good job. They canned him and then called a company meeting right away to talk about quality. Here are the notes we took on the board about the case, if you are interested. There were only a few in our class that would have fired him.
We also went over some ways to chart problems. The Ishikawa (or fish) diagram helps us do that by asking 5 why's. Here are some pics of our diagrams and the four (M's) major contributors: Man, Machine, Method, Material. I hope you enjoy the pics for these.

Finance:
Today we talked more on personal finance and how we should invest. It was such a quick explanation, I think we were more confused than anything. I would love to take the full classes on this sometime. I doubt I will have the time to fit it into my schedules. Oh well.

That was about as much as I got out of class for today. If you got more, please comment.

Demotivational

OB:
Demotivational is almost how I feel about this class right now. I have so much homework to do. I started on the "Good to Great" book report. I have come to some really shocking realizations about myself. Oh well, I'll leave those to... well, sorry, but not to you. We started off class with a series of Demotivational Posters. I have actually worked at a place that had one of these on their wall. Not many companies want to put these up, but this one was to actually motivate us. And it did. Go to the website to view and purchase your own. or just view the funny things they offer. Despair.com

We then started a powerpoint about motivation. I'll make a link tomorrow for that. There are some really great things int there that are worth rereading.

Then we talked about one of the other many things due this week. Evaluations. We are to evaluate each other. It sounds easy enough. We also went over a few things about how to evaluate:

4 points to evaluate
1) Emphasize strengths – positivity helps improve productivity
2) Avoid suggestions involving the changing of traits, but rather suggest more acceptable ways of acting – blue in the face to change traits, but “doctrine will change people faster”
3) Concentrate on opportunities for growth – not weaknesses
4) Limit plans for growth to a few important items – don’t try to do it all at once

Evaluate – up and down,

That was about as much as I got out of class for today. If you got more, please comment.

Anchor Your Life

OB:
Today we took a quiz. I was going to write up every question and answer right here, but this is a John Culter's Run. I am going to let you figure out the answers. What I will tell you is that if you know good jokes/riddles you may know the answers to some of these. I missed one question because I wasn't listening well enough. the rest I got right. But you have to take into consideration... I am old man and have been around the block a couple times. Most of these questions didn't stump me at all. Oh wait! none of them stumped me. Brother Holt did think I was cheating once, but I was actually checking the guy's paper next to me to see if he got the simple question right. That's right I was judging him to see how smart he was. I can promise the guy on the other side of me wasn't cheating, he got maybe 7 out of the 22 questions.

We got some more info on how to work on our Rudy Paper. I am not going to give you all you need to know to write that by Friday, but I will tell you it really isn't that hard and it doesn't matter how many times you've seen the movie, watch it again.

Supply Chain:
We went over the exam we took and he said something that really helped in understanding how to work the supply chain stuff, plus it was a really good life lesson. He said that we should adjust for whatever the anchor (standard deviation) is. Then he brought it back to the gospel aspect, that we should always adjust to our personal anchor. “Anchor your life to anything that is black and white.” I really like that. Some things, if not most things, are Black and white and we can make sure that our lives match those principles. The rest of class was focusing on starting Littlefield Technologies Part II.

That was about as much as I got out of class for today. If you got more, please comment.

Week in Review

Marketing on Monday:

Here are the notes that I took for the gardener burger case part B.

What was the point of their marketing campaign?
      Morning Star                                Harvest                Boca Garden
|-----------------------------------------|-----|-----|-----|----------------|

If you are number 2, 3 or even 4, it’s not smart to grow the category (meatless burgers)
If you are a small company but dominate the category, it’s very wise to grow it.
***AT this point***
Brother Eagar asked us, "have you had enough of this case?"

FUN TIME
“Denny’s late night”

Losing customers for late night, by the truck loads, due to other companies (McDonalds, Taco Bell) were also instigating late night schedules.

Needed to rebrand “Late Night”

Agency Types:
Account – business
Creatives – Do the drawing, writing, IDEATION -background(this Is me)
Productions – Take it to print or produce it

It's time for some Denny's commercials.

here is one about a human slingshot.

here is one about a school mascot.

Here is Denny's late-night website.

Unfortunately, for you guys Tuesday and Wednesday, I was out. My wife had all four of her wisdom teeth taken out, and I was taking care of our three little ones at home.
I was told I did not miss to much in class, but they were wrong. Gabrielle Ross had her day on Tuesday, and I missed cake.

Thursday:
Today we had a quiz in supply-chain. It had been there about five days since we went over the material and it was not that hard. I did make one mistake that cost me some simple points. Lucky for us, we had a review right before the quiz. I doubt I would have done as well had we not done the review. After the quiz was done, we were given a team bonus question. A little tip for all of you: remember to make sure that all your figures are in the same type. For example: if it says months, every thing better be in months.

Friday:
Since Brother Andrews was going to be gone today, marketing took its place. Finance was going to be pretty easy seeing that we had exam due on Saturday, and an individual assignment do that night. Part of the assignment, and I have to brag, was an amortization table. My table integrated it Excel macros to create a dynamic amortization table to fit the perfect amount of periods. I wish I could give you a copy of it the sentence to be proprietary to me and totally copyrighted.
As for marketing we finished up a little more of our integrated marketing campaign. Since I had missed Tuesday and Wednesday I thought little behind but I do use my own personal commercial idea that seemed to take off. So I don't feel too much out of the loop.

Out of class:
since class got out on Friday a little earlier than it usually does, I helped Stephen finish up the business cards. We had a slight problem, seeing that the pages that were given to us were in illustrator files, and were 11 x 17. Now the first part we actually did know, but the second part we had no idea. This made it very difficult to print. We wanted all of our cars to be done for the flea market on Saturday. They turned out, well, okay. I'll have to do some work on that to make it just right.
Other wonderful amazing things that happened to our company, we got new prices, after we had printed the signs to put up at the booths. Let's just say Stacy was not too happy with that. I wasn't too happy especially since one item I dropped in price, while another went up. Seriously, this is not helping my website.

Well that's all folks. I hope to have each day this next week taken care of.
Signed -Matt Baugh

Down and depressing

OB:
Hold on while I get dressed in all black, slick my hair (if I had any) and turn on some The Cure . We finished our discussion on the NASA Columbia Shuttle Case. It was so sad to see the video put on by ABC about the total destruction of the shuttle due to a small piece of foam. After my part as Don McCormick, I felt I was at fault. I would have resigned if I were him. Suicide probably crossed his mind. Basically, when it came down to who to blame for the accident. It was.... NASA's Culture at fault. I'm getting upset again just thinking about it, so I'm going on to the next part of depressing class information.

Supply chain:
No quiz, but we will have one next week. Brother Clark decided to show us the depressing look on the world's economy again and this time really hit it home. I get it! We live in difficult times! Enough! Not looking good for us in the future, but I'm still going to be optimistic and be a millionaire.

Columbia Panel

Organizational behavior:

Boy, I wish I had been taking notes today, but I was called to be on a panel discussing the Columbia shuttle mission.my name was Don McCormick, I was an engineer for NASA. I was given a piece of paper by brother Holt, it had a script written out for me to read. Previously we were given a CD, a multi-media Harvard case, about the Columbia shuttle mission. On this CD were multiple interviews and videos of the staff at that time. Don McCormick was never interviewed, but he was listed in multiple telephone conversations. As like many other engineers, Don McCormick is not a people person. I had to read from the script that had many pauses and stutters. This is not what I had expected but was very grateful to my lack of reading capabilities on spur of the moment out loud in front of people reading. You would got a kick out of listening to me stutter and pause while I read the script given to me. I truly do love to act. I really felt like I got into it well enough.

Basically we spoke of what the culture was like there at NASA and how a problem like this could have been made to be so overlooked. I felt there wasn't sufficient data to make a call on anything, but my character did in fact say that with the data available there wasn't any risk. What a pansy!

Out of Class:
We had a huge company meeting discussing the future. Jordan Judd bore his testimony, which was nice, but my personal thoughts on the matter are that it made it feel too much like a missionary commitment pattern and too manipulative. I understand that it wasn't, but in this setting, I would have responded better to cold facts about our progress. Oh well, it was nice to hear people's thoughts.

Supply Chain:

Today's class was very easy. With a simple Q&A session.

Just Communucation

OB:
After reading Habit 5 from Seven Habits, "Seek first to understand then be understood" we talked about communication. Here's a great song and video. It's in Japanese and from the Gundam Wing series. I have been on a Japanese kick lately so if you don't want to, you don't have to. We went over this slideshow about communication and then played a game. The Slideshow is missing a few new slides that didn't get uploaded. One of which was an audio clip from Salt Lake, where a lady had ended her traffic report with, "...and I say these things in the name of Thy Son, Jesus Christ, Amen!" I wish you could have heard that. Maybe I'll have Brother Holt upload the new version.
The game we played was much like Telephone. One guy was really bad. I couldn't believe he had messed up so bad, but I know now not to ever use him as a go-between for any important communication. Although it would be fun to try to use him in a prank. You could openly state you were going to be sabotaging his company at a specific time and place and he would definitely get it wrong. The more details, the more confused he'd get.

Outside of class:
Things are picking up and we should be getting the new "Smart Boxes" soon to do some really cool stuff. I hope to make my own beanie with my two symbols on it.

Littlefield Ends/Beat a Baby Seal

Supply Chain:
Our Littlefield Technology Simulation had come to an end on Friday and we kicked BUTT. D10 appropriately named DOMINATION has dominated the supply chain simulations and activities. Mostly due to a certain marketing emphasis deserter who followed her true supply chain calling... Colette Brown. She has a gift. I have a few pictures of what we did, but we did do the best in our class.

We could have waited...

Finance:
This time Brother Andrews made fun of our companies by displaying a video... this video.

Basically he said if we needed any help, to come see him and he'll be ready and willing to help us.

Then more on (Moron) the time value of money. Seriously, I am not saying a thing about these because you should know these things.

Benihana Revisited

Supply Chain:
So today we went over what we learned from the simulation. Here are the notes:

Many Variables (controlled)
-interrelationships
-demand
-Advertising
-Happy Hour
-Supply/Progress
-Layout
-Dinner Duration
-Batching

Then he went over the optimal configuration. I hope you read this before the simulation in class...

After all that Brother Clark took some time to explain to us how we are following into the same patterns as the Nephites did pre-coming of Christ...

3rd Nephi 6:11, 8, 10 – Many Merchants vs. Alma 23:17-18 – Industrious

Compare to [Video1]
And [Video2]

Isn't that a bit scary?

Benihana and Back to the Future

Supply Chain:
Today we had another simulation. The Benihana Restaurant. We were supposed to learn about batching, but that was lost somewhere. Mainly what we got out was there are so many things that go into a simple supply chain experiment. I got these numbers and found out together it was really lame. Here's what I got and then the better choice:

**DISCLAIMER**
INFORMATION ON THIS BLOG HAS BEEN ALTERED TO PROTECT THE SIMULATION. REFERRING TO THIS INFORMATION IN HOPES TO HAVE AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE IS CHEATING YOUR LEARNING. I DON'T GUARANTEE INFORMATION TO BE ACCURATE AFTER THE DAY OF POSTING!

1.) Use Batching
2.) No Batching 79-11
3.) 59-69-67
4.) 2x-Happy-5:00pm
5.) sh/8/sh

Better choice:
1.) 8/8/8
2.) 75/11
3.) 50/50/50
4.) 1.8X-HAPPY-5:00PM

I hope that helps some of you get a better amount in the end.

Finance:
Today I didn't pay too much attention to, and it looks as though I won't for a while. After mocking out businesses for the 5th day straight, Brother Andrews went on to discuss the fun of future values. Seriously, I have had this material 3 times already. (Math 108, CIT 140, and Accounting 202) I think I understand it fairly well. The assignments were a cinch seeing that all I had to do is pull up my old excel files with the calculators and turn those in. If you had heeded my warning for the weekend, then you too would have been alright.

Midterms

Marketing:
We got our midterm assignment today. The case was open to us and... well basically, we could use the time right then to read it, but that wasn't going to happen since everyone mostly got up and started to either leave or meet with the company. So class was only a few minutes long.

Out of class:
Yesterday (President's Day) we got the two embroidery machines out and started working on them. I went to watch as well as work on the website. Over the weekend I had tried to get the Smart Box to work, I got it to work once on my wife's computer but then it stopped. I got some graphics off the cards, but it really wasn't any help. those pictures were really lame.

Three Day Weekend Rancho Be-bop

Supply Chain:
Before we got to have a great weekend, we had to do another simulation while doing the other one. This one was about a root beer manufacturer. This one was easier to play with but I want to give you some hints on how to win this one. It's not graded, but it will help you.

Understand the rules of the game. There is no communication between people, so there is a lag time to understand. I was the Retailer. I would order and then it would take 4 cycles to actually get that amount. Demand stayed the same through out the game (50,000 cases). And so order only what you will need to have appear in the four week time and then once that order is made, go back to the minimum order to fill demand. DO NOT ORDER MORE THAN YOU NEED MORE THAN ONCE! The concept is called a bull whip. You order more than you need and then when it comes, you'll be sorry. You forget of the lag time. I ordered 1,000,000 twice and when it came, it hurt me so bad. Toward the end I didn't order anything because it took 4 weeks for them to stop sending me more than I needed. What a great lesson. I hop this helps you succeed where other failed.

Finance:
Another bash on our company to start off the day. Makes us feel good. It's time to get started reviewing time money formulas on excel. (PV, FV, PMT, NPER, RATE)

The Price is Right

Marketing:

Today with the case about how to price a furniture store to be competitive, we were all about pricing. For some kicks and giggles I wanted people to view this video of the most confused contestant on the show "Price is Right"

We went over the Workbench case. It was pretty boring, but the discussion afterwords brought out these great notes:

They are kind of stuck on price, try and find a way to build more value outside of price.

Pricing:
Different kinds of pricing strategies:
Skimming: when product comes out, they can charge more than the msrp because of hype.
ex. xbox360, iPod/Phone, Movies
Penetration: when a product comes out, they undercut and get out to everyone.
ex. wii
Prestige: Price it high because you can
ex. Prada, boats, Rolex, Luxury Cars, Segway, Tiffany
Lame: Just price at what will work.
Odd/Even: $3.99 or $4.00 vs. $3.99 or $4.00
Yield Management: Price differentiates by time (Customer segregation)
ex. airlines

Littlefield Starts

Supply Chain:

Today we started the Supply Chain simulation, "Littlefield Technologies". We were supposed to watch a video on how the simulation is to be run. I watched it, but it wasn't very helpful. In our team, we looked over the production for the first 50 days. There seemed to be a bottle neck on one machine. We then said we would watch it to see if another bottle neck appeared. And that was that.

Finance:

Brother Andrews loves to grill us on our companies. Watch out for this guy. He'll make fun of your company. I'm pretty sure the only way not to be made fun of is to find out what he really likes and build a business around that. Though it had better be a business that has something more than buying one thing and reselling it to another.

Branded!

Marketing:
I'm just going to put up my notes (that I typed up after Brother Eager told us to close our laptops) for the day:

Rosewood hotels and branding
Who is the target market: rich, famous, like unique, like to be catered to.
Why go with corporate branding: create brand loyalty,

What is Brand?
-signature
-powerful
-reputation
-umbrella (covers many things)
-lifestyle
-distinguishes
-popularity
-trademark
“A brand is a story” = a good brand has a great story behind it.
Where does brand exist? In the mind of the consumer.

Patagonia [tin shed website]
Branding seems to bring to life a concept of who they are.

Involvement Marketing = bring the people/users into the ‘story’.

Outside of Class:
Today we went over our company progress. I still have tons to do and more and more people are getting psyched about the web side of things. I only hope I can deliver on it. I don't think it will be hard to. We will be launching our first poster idea soon. Here's a shot of what it looks like.

Feminine Products

Marketing:
Brother Eager came around outside the classroom, while we were waiting for the class before us to finally move out, and shook our hands and introduced himself. It was his way of saying, "We haven't had class together in a while."
We talked about Consumer Behavior today. We went over the Tivo Case, and that was okay, but the true fun came from his lecture afterwards. The thing that got me the most was a chart he drew up on the white board. It was a usual bell shaped curve, but it was marked with this info.
2.5% innovators – small group think of the ideas or refine it and (geeks)
13.5% Early Adopters – can see a cool idea, take risks.
34% Early Majority – like cool things but don’t like to risk.
34% Late Adapters – Conformists!
16% Laggards – “Just getting microwaves”, DVD’s
He did interrupt his own teaching to relate a story he had of going to buy a car in Sandy Utah. It was funny but it reminded me of this video. There are tricks to buying a car and that video and many on youtube will help you not have his poor experience in buying a new car. But the buying of a new car brings up the steps we take to buy a "big ticket" item.
1. Identify a need/wait/desire
2. Research
a. Internet
b. Friends
c. Consumer Reports
d. Store
e. Ads
3. Narrowing
4. Buy
5. Post Purchase (justification)
The last one we talked on for a good amount, but then it was onto talking about how hard it is to market to, or take people away from, their routine purchases. Examples of routine purchases, or brand loyalty, are type of deodorant, toothpaste, bread, milk, and as I so obviously put "TAMPONS"! For some reason that was uncomfortable to some people. I don't know why, we should be all adults there, but I guess not. Maybe I should have used a more scientific term like, "Feminine Products". Oh boo-hoo!

Finance:
This was quick and painless, we talked about what ratios are, and who they matter to most. We looked at some website that gave the ratios for a couple of companies. That was kind of interesting. I was more interested in making a sweet poster for our Marketing meeting. So that class went by fast and even got out 30 minutes early.

Outside of Class:
So my poster idea was to get people to stop and text the company name "STITCHED" to 41411 and get signed up for our text updates. No one seemed to like my idea much and I guess I didn't follow instructions very well. The goal was to explain what we did and mine was more geared toward getting people to know who we were first and also to get subscribers or fan base. I might be a bit too advanced (technologically speaking) for the majority of the students. Twitter is a completely complex and foreign idea to them. We'll see how things turn out, but I'm pretty sure Stacey (CMO) feels I have too much power and reign. Perhaps I do. I would love to know her thoughts on the matter and help out any way I can. I also have a vision of how we can use our resources to make this company get out there.
Most of my stuff is waiting upon a catalog, and we can't do much else on that front but wait. One thing I'm noticing is that my job may be under marketing, because I work mostly with them, but I am all over the place. With a web business, I need finance to start up a bank account. For the website I need a clear cut order form to coincide with the items we have for sale, so I'm working with supply chain. And everything I do seems to be shown to the CEO right off. Hopefully I don't step on toes and if I do, be ready to apologize.

Quiz is as Quiz does!

In Supply chain we had a quiz. that really took the whole of class time. Before it we spent about 15 minutes asking questions about the way to do things on the practice examples. Here's a confession. I did not look over it at all, I didn't do the problems. I only did the problems in class and then looked at the formulas for the practice problems for about ten minutes and then the ten minutes of class (I was late to class) and I got a 30 out of 30. Yup 100% and I was one of the top five done. It really was easy.

Outside of class:
Brother Eager came in and talked to our marketing teams. I was pretty much out of that. Basically he spoke about the creative art students that will be assigned to us and how we need to prepare for that. It really isn't that important to us. But we'll see how that pans out.
We also worked on out business plan and then I had to go home.

Personal work:
I was called as web design/marketing manager. (As you can tell, I love the web. I have facebook, twitter, youtube, myspace, two blogs, I use Dial2do, google docs, scribd.com and docstoc.com. The internet and I get along very well. I ask it a question and it tells me what I need to know.) I have started doing this from day -200. I started to look into the rules for web business. I took a couple web design classes and web business classes. I talked to Brother Bob Reed and got our byui.net website created and gave me ultimate rights to it. I'm excited but I've already come up some roadblocks. I can't seem to get into my page to edit it at all. But from what I have seen is that I can alter html and that we should be able to do paypal checkout and shopping carts. This is going to revolutionize the IBC experience forever. You're Welcome!

Blind Dates and Lasers!

Happy Groundhog day to you all. It appears Phil saw his shadow, what a surprise 6 more weeks of winter... But he made a special forecast for the Rexburg Idaho area. 6 more months of winter!

Finance
Today we started off with Finance and the wit and sarcasm that is Brother Andrews was in full bloom. He discussed with us the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and was going to get to Statement of Cash flows but didn't. there are videos available that he made that he says WILL surely bore us to death. I'm not sure I want to die so soon. Nothing spectacular happened except for the Blind Date Brother Andrews set Erin Olpin up on. She was told that she was going on a date with a guy to a fancy restaurant in a sweet souped up, decked out, pimped to da max, hummer and the guy says over dinner he's worth $2 million. Being the smart girl she is, she asks how much he owes... $1995000. It was a great object lesson to the balance sheet.

OB
Brother Holt talked to us about our personal goals and how he wants them to be stretching and he mentioned yet again, not to talk to anyone about them. He gave some examples of what he doesn't want... "Go to the temple 2 times.", "Write in my journal", "Get Healthy" etc. It really has to fit the SMART format.
We have been given 2 new assignments to go along with the powerpoint presentation we were talking over on Friday and finished today.
1)Plan 10-15 minutes days formally planning my day from now on
2)spend 5-7 hours doing my productivity pyramid.
It was another great class. For more quotes, revert to my Friday's post where the link to the powerpoint is at.

Outside of Class Company
Our Mission Statement
Here is our logo and by clicking on it, you can see our company's mission statement. We also turned in our team mission statement and individual mission statements.

Plus for the fun of it I was shown this motivational video, I thought you might enjoy this one.

Bucket List

Finance:
Brother Andrews first grilled us on our business plan and talked to us about an executive summary. Both Trey and I were in B383 (New Venture Creation) and we were pretty silent. I'm pretty sure Trey didn't want to come off as the know it all for that subject, or he was just intimidated by Brother Andrews' ridiculing statements if he accidentally said something wrong. I know that's why I kept silent. Brother Andrews told us that the purpose of an Executive Summary is to get the potential investor to turn the page and learn more. He mentioned something that appealed to me. "Idea Champion". Sounds like something I'd be interested in. It turns out to be a person that, when given an idea, will run with the idea and get things done. I would like to be that for our company.
Now he went onto the boring part of talking about finance and what it is, why it's studied and how it ties into everything we do in a company. things that were most important of that lecture were, "Make sure when you increase profit that you aim to increase Share holder value" and "Risk/return relationship: Best way is to lower risk and raise returns." Glad when that was over.

OB:
First we talked about the Trouble at Wilson's case. I didn't really read the case so when we were working on it as a team to turn in the paper today I was totally out of it. I gave stupid answers and I know now that if I had read it, I would have been much more of a help. When we turned it in after class we got it back, then we added the organization charts we were supposed to and I turned it into to him to only get it back right away and told to fix it. I guess I'll be working on that this weekend as well as the company stuff.

We went through a power point about time management... aka Event Management. We even got to watch Oprah! Ok well a lecture done by Randy Pausch called, "The Last Lecture." That was amazing. Watch the full lecture here. And a follow-up video.
After that we talked a bit about our z-goals. I had never heard of those before. Someone finally said, "Oh, like a bucket list!" For not seeing the movie I still knew the term. A list of things you want to do before you die, or "kick the bucket". I realized I don't really have any goals like that. Plus I don't really have any major priorities in life. So I thought this week is Fast Sunday, might as well fast for priorities and work on a mission statement with my wife. From the reading in 7 Habits I found out that most of my priorities fit into Quadrant II. Important but not Urgent. Wow! What and eye opener. I have some work to do.

Outside Class:
Today after a meeting with the Marketing team to get a poster done for our presentation of our idea, I decided to take some time and look into the future of our web business. I first talked to Brother Lundin. I had a class last semester with him on Web Businesses. Very informative, but my chat with him was better. He said it should be able to be done. The only thing needed for doing a paypal account is to have a local bank account. It turns out that can be done if we have a teacher sign up for it. That was some good news. Plus he said that President Clark has wanted us to branch out away from the student Lemonaid stands and be bigger than we have been.
I then talked to Brother Bell about the idea and he loved it. The best thing to hear from him was this, "If you have any problems come to me and we'll work on it."
I then went to Brother Holt, who was quite the downer. He is the biggest "nay sayers" for this whole ordeal. Worse than the students in my own company. They have tried to look into the web stuff and came up with the road blocks I found but had read more than they had apparently. Brother Holt had emailed me a two page paper. I guess the second sheet doesn't circulate as well, but it states we can use Pro-Stores. this is the news I wanted and the Web Teacher and the Department Chair are behind me. Then who could be against me? Now all I need to do is wait on a solidified name of our company and then I can talk to Bob Reed about getting our domain space on shop.byui.net. We'll see.

The Forcast for Today!

Supply Chain:
Brother Clark went over a brief (underpants) slide show about why we forecast. Again my mind was wondering, but I was able to jot down a few notes about forecasting helps us with financials and inventory, even marketing is helped by understanding forecasted figures. There are two types of forecasting, quantitative and qualitative. The most important thing to know about forecasting is that it is ALWAYS WRONG!
We then broke into our teams to figure our an Excel sheet with forecasting on it. We did pretty well and I learned a new trick called "TREND" It's the same as the formula of a line and that with it you can figure out a number by putting in an 'x' value. He called it a game but we had no source of winning. It was more of an exercise. And I enjoyed it.

Company Time:
We broke into our groups and talked a bit about ourselves to know what we want to see happen. I quickly distinguished myself as the internet and web guy. This is where I wanted to go and I hope to make some major changes in the way IBC looks at web businesses. Now I need to look into what to do with this information.

Domination!

Supply Chain:
Brother Clark had us play a game today. It was a really crazy game about finding the "Critical Path" and things would change during the game and it would alter which path was the "Critical Path" It was fun to work as a team on it and it turn out the the best you can do is spend $9300 and we were the only team to hit it. We were right on with the best course. We just made all the right decisions and spent the least. We rocked... We Dominated! You can't really see it but the screen is showing the numbers and the winning team. that took up that class period.

Finance was next but my mind was gone still from winning. I'm pretty sure it wasn't anything really big because Finance doesn't really start until Friday. Oh well. We're cool!

Racketeer

Supply Chain:
The first real day with Brother Clark. He told us a story of how he had tennis practice during lunch break and related it to not being a real game but it is good to keep up the strokes. IBC is much like that, there isn't everything of a real business, but we can learn a lot and keep up real strokes. He is really interesting to listen to, but he has the capability to make me lose my train of thought. Ok that's not entirely true, I have the choice, I can be proactive, but I had a tough time today staying focused.

We went over a chart he had created for finding the best racket for him. Here he is explaining it to us. It was really interesting to see the detail he put into and how to find something that is the best over all rather that settling. I think you will be most happy with the purchase/decision when you have put as much thought into it as possible and came to a conclusion rather than weigh quickly and go.
We then went over a powerpoint presentation. Unfortunately this one is not available for review here or on iLearn. One thing I did make mention to write down outside of the ppt file was this, “Efficiency is only good on easy processes”. That's good info.

Tuesdays and Thursdays:
On Tuesdays and Thursdays we have only one class and then it's team/company time. We took the time to finalize a bit of our organization. Here are our officers. (L-R) Tyler Harper-COO, Matt Cox-HR, Stacey Hatch-CMO, Jonathan Sarlo-CFO, Jordan Judd-CEO. I think we have a great group.

Back and Better For It

Finance (sort of):
Chris Andrews lead us today and made fun of our companies and ideas. He wanted us to describe our company and what we do in 7 words or less and make it so he would be interested in knowing more. Embroidery was a hard one to sell to him. We'll have to work on it. Then he went over this outline thingy that would help us come up with a better business plan. And that was about it.

OB:
Brother Holt talked about what we will be looking forward to in the next coming weeks and how we will present out company ideas. Then he talked to us about the structure for our companies and what advantages/disadvantages leaders have.

We watched Remember the Titans clips to learn about the "Five stages of Group Creation":
1. Forming – High Morale, Low/Zero Productivity
2. Storming – Morale tanks, productivity goes up a bit
3. Norming – Morale up better but plateau, productivity still climbing
4. Performing - Productivity is up and Morale is up.
5. Adjourning - We didn't really go over this one. But I'm guessing it's all about finishing the project or team/group.

Some Definitions:
Norm = finding routine and accepted behaviors, “Social Loafing”,
Norms we want: Dedication, Common Interests, Joy, Friends, Trust, Respect, Punctual
Class seems to go quicker now. We'll see how long that lasts. that's about it for today.

Badger Creek Überblick Day 3

Saturday 24th

7:30 a.m. Pack up
Well it was before that that Stephen Madsen woke me up and told me we need to start on Breakfast. He was right. He had tried to wake up Rachel, who was in charge of this ordeal, but to no avail. Everyone else in the room heard him asking for her, but they thought since she didn't respond that she had already left the room. Oops. I didn't pack up until later.

8:00 a.m. Breakfast
Breakfast was fun until they ran out of baked potatoes. The french toast was amazing and the crew worked well. then they worked even better once Rachel got in there. All of my team was down there working on it all. Finally Company C came down frozen and got some cocoa, but I had no idea no where my cider was and with that was my mixer. Just a quick overview of what you can expect to be there. No I have no idea if it's food storage, but a lot has been left behind. For food you'll find butter, syrup, pancake mix, almost any spice and vanilla extract. Gear: Stand mixer, regular and giant, (they do have a whisk, I should have gotten a picture of the one they had, it was huge.) Huge convection oven, giant griddle, gas stove, mixing bowls and tons of pitchers. They even had cups and 1000 count plastic utensil sets.

9:00 a.m. Company Time
while everyone cleaned up the place some of us went down with all the gear to pack the cars and take down the sleds. After that we met in our company and discussed what we thought our company should do. We voted on Embroidery. It worked. So no we'll have to get together and create a team and mission and financials, plus pitch the idea to the board.

11:00 a.m. Leave Badger
We left

12:00 p.m. Arrive at Rexburg
We Arived

The End!!!

Badger Creek Überblick Day 2 Part 2

Friday 23rd

1:00 p.m. 5th and 6th Team rotations and processing
This afternoon was filled with more awesome activities. We started off with a trust exercise that grew. Well we all got into two circles and one person closed their eyes and got pushed around. This is scary for me in two ways. Both of which have something to do with BIG GUYS. Number one is pushing a big guy into me (a not too little, but small enough). Then when it was my turn, number two comes into play. I think I flew from one person to another at one point. The next was an actual

Trust Fall
You know the drill 8+ people stand with arms outstretched and you stand on a pedestal and fall backwards (straight) and hope they catch you. I went first to prove to myself that I could it better than I did in scout camp many years ago. The hint on that one is this: "Pretend you are squeezing a penny between your butt cheeks." - Brother Clark. It works, it really works!

Spider's Web
Another "Rush to do it" by my company in this one. We do a really good job of it. Basic premise, bungee cords strung up web-like. Then you have to (without talking) pass everyone through holes to the other side without touching the web. the one thing that helped us was to pick a whole you knew you could go through. That's all I'm going to give as a hint on that.

Giant Swing
I went first again and like the Power Pole from the day before I was most afraid of ending it too soon. I was holding onto a short bit of rope that help my two caribeeners together and it started to slip the further/higher I got. Here is Rachel Huey going at it. This was priceless.

4:00 p.m. Company Initiatives
Now this was some fun stuff. Since this is getting long as is and I'm pretty sure you're tired of hearing about Badger Creek... What? You're not, you want more. Ok!

Rock, Paper, Scissors
Ultimate RPS fights. No strategy here so you'll just have to deal with this one on your own.

Snow Shoe Relay
Much like the ski relay from the day before, but this time it was one person on a pair of snow shows that were made out of all wood and then straps. No mesh and it was difficult to tie on and keep them on in the run. We got lapped by the other company. Why yes I am still bitter! j/k

Save the Chicken
Last one guys! You have to pick the three least talkative people to control the situation. No one can talk at all and they have to direct you. The object is to use a rope and all the people you need to get a rubber chicken from this ring of 10-12 feel (snow for us) lava, and by not touching it, rescue the "baby". We had a great idea and I'm never telling you how we did it. No I won't, even if you pay me $20 to my paypal account at acieffe@gmail.com to which I would reply by email with the way to do it. Still not going to do it. *shifts eyes*

6:00 p.m. Dinner
Such a relief to know we weren't going so far to the camp site, just to the lodge and then a good dinner. Alright I am going to openly say I was pretty stupid (Rachel, stop agreeing) about the way I handled dinner. I made multiple mistakes. All of which (except the potatoes) could have been remedied with a bit of looking around. As for the potatoes, I should have had them cooked before we came up. Potatoes take about an hour to bake, which we had the time, but I helped complain about not having enough time that it prolonged the cooking of other things to about an hour. But dinner overall was a success.

After dinner, some went to go sledding. I chose to stay and chat and relax. I had enough fun in the kitchen for the night. I did find a cool book about frontier toys. After the sledding those that did not go to bed, played card games or talked till about 12:00 or even 1:00. I stayed up for a while talking (ok I just listened) with Brother Clark and listen to Jonathan Sarlo's "How I Joined the Church" story. I really enjoyed Brother Clark's transition from politics to, "So Gabby, where are you from?" that was funny. After that I went to bed. Good Night and Good Luck.

Badger Creek Überblick Day 2 Part 1

Friday 23rd
I woke up multiple times during the night. It was rumored to be less -5 F. I finally woke up at about a quarter to 6 am. I knew I would and winder if I basically told myself to do it. But I was freezing. I had one sleeping bad rated at 5 F. and I did ok. I decided to change into my clothes for the day and start packing up. I tried to not wake people up, but even though no one else moved, most everyone was awake. By the time I stood up to pack my sleeping bag, Brother Wescott came in and told us to rise and shine. It wasn't until 7:45 that we all were ready to travel down to the lodge to get breakfast. Here are some pictures of the tent and the Yert (inside and out). Sorry everyone, those were the last of the pictures. My battery on my phone was dead except for a video that was completely worth taking. I feel a bit bad, I wanted a picture of a tree that had fallen and broken over a little cabin. Oh well.

8:00 a.m. Breakfast
Breakfast was not very exciting, the food was good, but no real morals found here with breakfast burritos.

9:00 a.m. Company and Team Time – Sheets
So we left the lodge with a few things to put in the cars and some water bottles for the day ahead and pushed/pulled the sled to the L.C. We went upstairs and drew on a sheet, well we traced Tyler Harper and put words we wanted to be manifested in our company inside his outline and outside were things we didn't want in our company. That was fun. We then went over our individual team company ideas. We had horse drawn sleigh rides, funnel cakes, button and t-shirts, embroidery, some one mentioned valet service and a Bigger and Better game. Anyway we narrowed it down to the sleigh rides, funnel cakes, and embroidery. They gave compelling arguments. Then Brother Holt came up and told us the rules...
12:00 p.m. Lunch
It was lunch time and our teams needed a cheer to get lunch. Now No one was prepared and both companies were upstairs now. A couple teams went but got rejected. Yes Brother Holt and Brother Clark will reject your pathetic lame and otherwise stupid cheer and you will have to do it again. Or they will tell you to do something completely different. We went third but were the first to go down to get food. Subway sandwiches, chips, and snickers. And all the water you could fit in your bottle. There were two honorable mentions in the cheer contest outside our own. C4 (get it) did this circle around the caller:
caller: C1
team: What?
caller: C2
team: What?
caller: C3
team: What?
caller: C4
team: BOOM! (and they jumped back as if to explode)
The other team D7 did this in a line.
caller: I don't know what I've been told
team: I don't know what I've been told
caller: Team D7 is really bold
team: Team D7 is really bold (to which they tried to walk past Brother Holt and go get food) that was Ballsy!

Badger Creek Überblick Day 1 Part 2

Thursday 22nd
After lunch we went upstairs in the "L.C." and we went over more things about what to expect with this retreat. We learned that there was going to be an activity then a discussion about what we learned and how it might relate to business. (by the way, we were supposed to have read Good To Great Chapter 1-3 by the time we got there. We didn't even mention it once. Alright, we did once but it was in reference to an activity, we didn't have a quiz or anything at all. The only thing I can think of that we needed from it was the "Level 5 Leaders" thing and not even that.)
Before we could get going on our activities, we had to build sleds which would be used for activities and for carrying our gear up a long hill. This is the making process and then a picture of a finished product. These were 5 years old and had been made and then taken down each year. Only for the winter, so it's not that bad. But you could almost tell which screw hole came from what year. A tip on how to accomplish this task is to have your team pick a diagram reader. Identify each piece and have two people working on each side and one working on the middle pieces. It will run smooth. Make sure each person knows their job. (this would have been easier if you had a cordless mini drill... I'm just saying)

12:30 p.m. 1st and 2nd Team rotations and processing
Our first stop on our wilderness survival camp out was with Brother Wescott. He showed us these nifty things. The device is used by groups of people on avalanche areas. If one person goes missing, the rest turn their devices to search and they should be able to find other transmitting device. There are some problems. The device transmits in a butterfly pattern and not in a radius. So you can easily be thrown off course. The trick is to follow the numbers and not really the arrows. Here's a picture of Jonathan Sarlo and Rachel Huey searching for the hidden transmitter. Also in our time here, we played with a rope trick. Nope, I'm not telling you how to do it, but I will tell you this... You don't need to contort yourselves.
Next section was another duo set of games lead by Brother Clark.
Prison Wall:
You have to get everyone up and over this wall. We tried a few times. One of these pictures is of Jonathan trying to jump up as the last person and failing. We couldn't speak while the game was going on, but we could when not and revise our plans. We finally figured out a great strategy that got us everyone in a record time. Now I don't mind the time thing, but we started a trend in our company that I didn't like much. We rushed into things too quickly. I understand that if you fail fail fast and learn from it. But as an entrepreneur, I learned that we don't take risk, we manage it. It's not my style to "Ready, shoot, aim!" We did this with almost every activity.
Life Raft:
Here we were to swing on a rope over a little bit of ground "freezing river" and land on the raft. All 17 of us were to fit on the wooden area "raft" to survive. "No child left behind" So we tried again and again and failed. I came up with a plan that failed even worse (getting on shoulders does not help... it hurts). I think one thing that did help is that we started to get hot and some of us started to shed layers. 15 people on that thing in full winter garb was tough, 17 with a little less worked barely. Here's a picture from inside the group and one from Brother Clark's POV. No Electronics my patootie!

3:00 p.m. 3rd and 4th Team rotations and processing
John Colter's Run:
I only have one picture of this. The other got warped by tilting the camera too quick, but Here we heard a quaint story of running that hardly had anything to do with what needed to be done. Then the race began. This section will be completely blank as to details because it is best left a secret. I'll tell you this in warning, "running, fire, listen to directions carefully". Plus a shout out goes to Gabby for... well she knows! Hey if I told you, that would be cheating.

Power Pole:
Are you scared of heights? Do you hate falling? Then this is for you. Oh wait. NOT for you. Actually I take it back. This might help you get over it. Here we got strapped up and climbed a tall pole and jumped off trying to hit a tennis ball about 5 feet in front of us. Not all of us did it. I did it, but I couldn't say it was a stretch for me. I'd been cliff jumping and other things to realize, the gear is good and I'm not afraid. But I was afraid. I found a new fear. A fear that grips me in my daily life. The fear that it will end too soon. I climbed up the pole, much like the pictures of Stephen here. I got to the top and turned around and at that point I found myself scared. Not of falling, but falling too soon. What if I fall and I don't get to jump? What if I lose my footing and end it now? I hated the thoughts. I did get up there and stood tall and yelled, "Oh Captain, my Captain!" To me it was a moving moment, but many younger than me would not get the reference. I was touched by the movie "Dead Poet's Society" to live life. Here's the ending sequence of the movie. Rent it!
6:00 p.m. Dinner
After running in the John Colter's Run and jumping off a tall pole we were not ready to experience our trip to the top. We got our gear from the cars and ventured up the hill. It was dark and the path unlit. It was tough to pushing a sled up a hill for an unknown amount of time. There could be some real nice symbolism, but I'll let you draw that. We finally made it up to the camping area. There were a couple of regular tents, one huge tent and a yert. Did he say "yert" I believe I did. I'll show you later the picture. We had dinner, talked for a bit, but everyone seemed to be too tired to really do anything else. I went to bed, but had a tough time getting to sleep. My body was tired, but mind full awake. Plus it didn't help that a couple of guys were talking about farts for most of the night.
And that's where I'll leave you... till morning!
